To get the best result be informed at mediation.

The best basis for lasting arrangements is if everyone knows what they're entitled to. To get the most out of mediation you need to first think through the options and know where you stand legally.

What is mediation?

Mediation is a discussion between you and your ex-partner with a third person who is impartial and acts as a guide or referee to help you come to an agreement.

The mediator doesn't tell you what to decide. Any agreement made at mediation is like a handshake.

Mediation can be done face to face, in separate rooms, on the phone, on the computer, and you don't have to speak directly to the other person, just the mediator. Depending on what it says, an AVO doesn't automatically exclude you from mediation.
